Nasreddin Hodja – The One Who Pays, Plays the Whistle
One day, Nasreddin Hodja went to the market to buy some things he needed. The neighborhood children saw him and all started calling out, asking him to bring them something.
The Hodja smiled and replied:
— Alright, children. We'll see.
But only one of the children came up to him and said:
— Hodja, can you buy me a whistle with this money?
The Hodja took the money and headed off to the market.
By evening, when he returned, the children quickly gathered around him and excitedly asked for their whistles. Nasreddin Hodja reached into his pocket, pulled out a whistle, and handed it to the child who had given him money.
The other children started shouting:
— What about our whistles?
Nasreddin Hodja smiled and said:
— The one who pays, plays the whistle!
