The Tale of the Rooster and the Jewel
Once upon a time, there was a rooster. This rooster came out of his coop to look for food to satisfy his hunger, and scratched and scratched the ground. While hoping to find something to fill his stomach, he saw something shining from under the ground. He dug a little more and examined it carefully to see what it was. It turned out that what he found was a precious jewel that had been lost by its owner.
The rooster looked at this shiny object and said to himself:
“Ah, you are obviously something very valuable. The person who lost you would probably be willing to pay a fortune to find you. But as for me, I would rather have a grain of barley than all the jewels in the world. Because that is what I need.”
These words of the rooster reminded him that precious things are worthless to those who cannot appreciate or need them.
Although the jewel is priceless, it does not mean even a grain of barley to the rooster. This incident shows that everyone values different things according to their own needs and values.
This tale tells us that the value of something is in the hands of those who know its value.
