Smart Tailor

 Mehmet Akif,Cemil Meric Middle School

Once upon a time, there was a great sultan. This sultan was both rich and powerful, but he had little patience and much anger. One day, he turned to his viziers in his palace and said:

“Find me a tailor who can sew the most durable and beautiful robe. But be careful! If I don't like the robe, I will give him a great punishment!”

When the viziers heard this news, they were alarmed. They gathered the best tailors in the palace, but none of them dared to fulfill the sultan's request. Finally, a young tailor, known in the city for his intelligence, came forward:

“I can sew a robe for the sultan.”

Everyone was surprised. “Are you out of your mind? If he doesn't like it, he will be in trouble!” they said. But the young tailor smiled:

“Patience, where there is wisdom, there is a solution.”

The Tailor's Cunning Plan

The tailor bought the most beautiful fabrics, prepared his needles and appeared before the sultan.

“My sultan, I will sew you such a robe that it will neither wear out nor get dirty. But give me forty days for this.”

The sultan was surprised but agreed. The wise tailor set to work, but he neither cut the fabric nor chose the thread! Instead, he traveled around the country, walked the streets and listened to the people's troubles.

At the end of forty days, the sultan summoned him to his presence:

“Come on, where is the robe?” he asked.

The Clever Tailor came empty-handed, but his face was smiling. He approached the sultan and said:

“My Sultan, I have brought you the most beautiful robe, but to see it you need not only the eye but also the mind.”

The Sultan frowned: “What do you mean? Where is my robe?!”

The tailor began to explain in a wise manner:

“Is a robe only made of silk? There is such a robe that it is woven with the love of the people, sewn with the thread of justice, and adorned with goodness. This is what I have been doing for forty days. I have gone out into the streets, fed orphans, stood up against injustice, helped the poor. Now your people love you more, because the fabric of justice is strong. This is the robe that never wears out!”

The sultan was surprised and very angry at first. Just as he was about to give the tailor a big punishment, the vizier leaned into the sultan's ear and whispered something.

Indeed, all the people were talking about the good deeds of the sultan. The sultan was very pleased with what the vizier said.

“I have never seen a smart tailor like you! Indeed, you have embroidered the most beautiful robe. Indeed, a ruler is surrounded not by his clothes, but by the love of his people.”

So the Wise Tailor became both the sultan's friend and the wisest person in the country. His name traveled from tongue to tongue and became part of fairy tales.

Three apples fell from the sky: one to the Smart Tailor for his intelligence, one to the sultan for his justice, and one to the readers of this tale!
