A COUPLE OF RED GOODNESS

The coldest days of winter had been reported. On her way home from work, Elif saw an old man shivering on the street. He was wearing a thin jacket and had nothing to cover his hands. His fingers were red from the cold.

Elif paused. She glanced into her bag and noticed a pair of red gloves she had never used. Without hesitation, she handed them to the man.

Smiling, she said, “Your hands must be freezing. Please, take these.”

The old man was surprised at first, then thanked her.

With a warm smile, Elif said, “My name is Elif.”

The old man replied, “And I am Adem.” He looked at Elif with gratitude, feeling the warmth of the gloves spreading through his hands.

Elif realized that kindness had a warmth strong enough to make her forget the cold.

Sometimes, a small act of kindness can brighten someone’s entire world.
